I've been pining for another trip ever since returning from Israel in December, but as my wonderful boss' health became more precarious, taking off for a week or two is much harder to justify. As my 30th birthday approached (April) my wanderlust reached an apex. I needed something special, fairly cheap, and quick. A weekend getaway seemed to fit the bill.
If you type in "Weekend Getaways NYC" into Google you get a lot of lists of places nearby that you can quickly and cheaply visit in just a weekend. There are great places, and I'm sure there are great places near you, but how about something with a little more pizzazz? (A word I just learned was coined by Diana Vreeland!) Something that might be crazy to do in a weekend but you totally can so why don't you just do it omg so exciting?
And then I thought.....
Why have one weekend getaway when there are four weekends in April?
FOUR weekends. FOUR trips. And my birthday is April 4th. It is....magnificent in its perfection.
In planning, I did already have one committed weekend. On April 11th, I was to be a bridesmaid in my friend's wedding, so I was already booked to be in Texas, where we're both from. So I thought, I should visit four places that make me as happy as home. And I was interested in visiting places that would involve a bit of a challenge, that others might not think was doable in such a short amount of time.
After some consideration and checking in to flight costs, here are my four birth-month weekend getaways in order:
PARIS (for my actual birthday)
TEXAS
PUERTO RICO
ORLANDO (Wizarding World of Harry Potter)
Just seeing the names of the locations again all together makes me so happy.
These trips ran the gamut from super cheap (obviously visiting home gave me a free place to stay) to pretty expensive (Paris for me was about ~ $300 a day for three days. Think treat-yo-self on a moderate budget).
I'll be posting articles on these individual trips soon, so check back or make sure you subscribe!
