The wanderlust has got me...

by the belly aching fire.               -Robert W. Service

I love this quote. For me it really conveys the deep internal need to travel, not just as a once-a-year vacation, but as a means of fulling living. I've been traveling internationally since I was 5 months old, but in the past few years my interest and desire to travel has been increasing steadily. In 2011 I started blogging my adventures and Alison Wanders was born.

Since I've been traveling so much, I get a lot of questions from friends and family about how I afford to do it so much, how I pack for short and long trips, and how I feel about traveling alone.  I've enjoyed learning travel advice from others and through my experiences, and wanted a way to share it.

I'm mostly interested in solo travel for women, low-cost budget travel, and I love equally weekend getaways, staycations, and long-term journeys.

One of my favorite things to do when I get the chance is stargaze. Living in NYC we don't get to see those beauties too often, so I appreciate any chance I have when it's dark enough. For me, looking at the stars makes our little world seem so much more accessible. Traveling to another country seems so easy when pondering the universe, and the unknown experiences awaiting in a far-away land feel thrilling rather than fearful. When I think about the world with the perspective offered by stargazing, adventure seems so very attainable.
